What is Luna?

Luna is an interactive AI Chatbot. Using SM Intelligence, Luna can help you to better understand what you are learning about and WHY it is useful and important to know. 

In Luna's Why It Matters chats, you can ask Luna clarifying questions about the topic, get additional information, and learn about how that topic connects to your life and interests. Why it Matters chats are only available in some courses. You will see this icon in the direct instruction if it is active.

In Luna's Improve My Score chats, Luna targets concepts and questions that you missed in an assessment and helps get you on track. Luna doesn't give you the answers, but she will help break down steps toward a solution or follow your feedback to help you better understand. 

How to Use the Why It Matters Chat

• When you are in some of your courses learning new information, you will see the Luna icon as you scroll through the page. 
• Click the icon. 

• A window will appear to start the chat. Respond to Luna's prompt or ask your own questions.
• You can spend as much or as little time with Luna as needed. 

• A copy of your chat log is shared with your teacher. 

How to Use the Improve My Score Chat

• For any graded assessment, if you score 80% or less, the Luna icon will appear on the assessment results page.
• Select the Luna icon.

• A window will appear to start the chat. Respond to Luna's prompt or ask your own questions.
• You can spend as much or as little time with Luna as needed. 

• A copy of your chat log is shared with your teacher. 

Did You Know:

• Luna can message your teacher on your behalf. If you have a question for your teacher, you can ask Luna to message them. Luna will help you create a message and send it for you. 
• Luna can connect you with a tutor! If Luna's help isn't enough, you can ask her for tutoring help. She will connect you with the waiting area on Pencil Spaces for additional support.
• Luna can have a multilingual chat. If you need to chat with Luna in a different language, Luna may be able to assist you and adjust to the language used. 
• Your teacher can access your chat logs. A copy of all chat logs is shared with your teacher. 
• Chats can be read aloud using Readspeaker. Just as it is in your course, you can select the Readspeaker icon to hear the Luna chat read aloud.
• You can help Luna improve. Simply select the thumbs up or thumbs down during a chat to show whether Luna is helpful.
